A special House panel will oversee funding distribution.
On Thursday, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi announced she was creating a special panel of members of the House of Representatives to oversee the distribution of billions of federal dollars directed to respond to the coronavirus outbreak.
She said the committee would “prevent waste, fraud, and abuse,” and that it would be bipartisan. She appointed House Majority Whip James Clyburn to head the panel, which she named the House Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis.
“The committee will be empowered to examine all aspects of the federal response to coronavirus and to assure that the taxpayers’ dollars are being wisely and efficiently spent to save lives, deliver relief, and benefit our economy,” she told reporters.
